INTRODUCTION
Rise 1000x (Rise a Thousand Times), the Black Youth Success Movement, consists of a group of people who have dedicated their lives to help address the inequities in education for Black/African-American children. However, all children are welcome. We envision achieving educational equity for Black Students who in turn lead the nation in solving the reading crisis for all children. We believe reading success is foundational to academic and career success. One success will lead to another until greater equity and excellence is achieved in all areas of endeavor. We are a program under Success4rkids, a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Akron, Ohio.
We initially focus on reading success and strive to have every 3rd-grade student achieve reading proficiency, a key educational achievement milestone. However, the same program principles also apply to older students who still struggle to achieve reading proficiency. Additionally, much of the training also helps to improve learning effectiveness for other subjects such as math. Over time, we will add additional resources to help in all subjects.
Most of the training is delivered online. However, there are many things families can do together at home that can really help students to succeed. If a family does not have a computer with Internet access at home, our goal is to help these families connect so they can also benefit from access to these tools.
The good news is that most students can succeed by following the simple program principles and only need to train about 20-25 minutes daily over a 2 to 3 year period.
Over time we hope to partner with local organizations in each community to have a local presence. Please let us know if your organization can become a local partner or if you as an individual can help us to connect with potential partners in your community.
